Dave Grohl has Madison in his blood, whether he knows it or not. In 1990, his then-future band Nirvana recorded demos at Smart Studios for what would become Nevermind. In 2006, he and Foo Fighters opened for Bob Dylan (weird, right?) at the Kohl Center. Now, in 2017, Grohl returns to our fair city, this time as the main event.
Foo Fighters will headline the Kohl Center on Tuesday, Nov. 7, the concert’s promoters announced this morning. This news is noteworthy for a couple reasons, primarily that the Foos are one of the biggest bands on the planet. They’ve got eight albums under their belt, all of which have been certified either platinum or gold. They’ve won 11 Grammys, and in 2014 Grohl was enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Nirvana. Right now, there is a Foo Fighters song playing on the radio at your local grocery store. They are ubiquitous.
2017 is looking like it will be a huge year for the band. It marks both the 20th anniversary of the Foos’ landmark second album The Colour and The Shape and the release of a spanking new ninth album, Concrete and Gold, which was also announced today. It includes “Run” (see the single’s Grohl-directed video below) and drops on Sept. 15 via Roswell/RCA Records.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m. and will likely move quickly, so make yourself some fresh pots and get ready to rock.
