It may be a clear example of cheesehead pandering, but I am 1,000% on board.
GQ has released an “epic” interview between two Wisconsin icons: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Bon Iver head honcho Justin Vernon. For the magazine’s “One on One” video interview series, the pair met at Lambeau Field to discuss a wide array of topics. Unsurprisingly, it’s a fascinating conversation.
In their 42-minute chat, Rodgers and Vernon dig deep. Ever wondered what music the QB listens to before games? Now’s your chance. Or maybe you’re curious about how Vernon’s experience in youth sports informs his communication with his bandmates? That’s in there, as is everything from Vernon’s songwriting process to Rodgers’ hope to play until he’s 40 to both men’s strong advocation for therapy.Perhaps the most interesting anecdote is Vernon breaking down the story behind “Holocene,” which Rodgers says is his favorite Bon Iver song (NPR listeners would agree). But that A-Rod is a Bon Iver fan shouldn’t surprise anyone — back in 2017, he wore his 22, A Million-era Bon shirt for a series of gifs.
Someone please write these two a buddy road trip comedy right now. This is America’s next great odd couple.
