Calling all spooky bois and girls — the Freakfest lineup is here.
Madison’s annual Halloween party announced its 2018 roster this morning, with dance rockers MisterWives and hip-hop singer/songwriter Quinn XCII slated to headline its main two stages on Saturday, Oct. 27.
MisterWives will headline the Mountain Dew Stage at the Capitol Square. Formed in 2013 by a group of friends, MisterWives is now also a family band — singer Mandy Lee and drummer Etienne Bowler recently married. (So I’m going to go out on a limb and say this just might be the story behind the band’s single “Drummer Boy.”) Also playing the Dew Stage are Tank and The Bangas, the New Orleans funk squad that won NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest in 2017, and Big Freedia, another NOLA native and pioneer of the hip-hop subgenre bounce.
Over on Gilman Street, the Steve Brown Apartments Stage will showcase the Motown-inflected soul-rap hybrid of Quinn XCII (or “Quinn 92”). Also on the bill is Rochester, Minn., native Yung Gravy, a trap enthusiast with a satirical bent to his songs. And if you head on over to the Ian’s Pizza & WSUM stage, I’d highly recommend checking out The Dirty Nil, a trio of loud-as-shit Canadian punks who write songs tailormade for late night parties.
Tickets are $10 and go on sale this Friday, Aug. 31; the day of show price is $15. The full lineup is below.
