Perhaps the only two consistently good things in the world are beer and dogs. At O’so Brewing’s new Madison taproom, which opens this spring, you can enjoy the company of both.
A few months back, the Plover-based brewery announced it would open a new taproom in the retail space below the Marling Apartments on East Wash. Today, they’ve stoked even more anticipation by announcing that “The Madhouse,” as they’re calling it, will be dog-friendly.
The announcement comes in the form of a comical set of rules aimed at both canines and humans, or how to avoid being “a turd in the taproom.” Some might seem obvious, like remembering to clean up your dog’s poop or keeping them on a short leash. But others go further, instead acting more as pro tips for dog owners. One illustrates the importance of wearing your dog out before bringing them to the bar. After all, a tired, contended dog is more likely to behave than one that’s ready to run. You’re advised to take them to the dog park or on a long walk before hitting up the Madhouse.
Another is to bring your own bowl to keep a sense of control over what your pooch is drinking. Hops can be highly toxic to dogs, and given the hoppy work of the folks at O’so, this is the safest way to make sure your pet isn’t drinking something they shouldn’t.
But most importantly: Is this going to be fun for your dog? Your pup may be your unconditional best friend, but not all of them are emotionally equipped for the sensory overload of a craft brewery. If you think your dog might freak out over the sights and smells, it may unfortunately be best to leave them at home.
I, for one, look forward to petting all of your dogs at The Madhouse, which aims to open in late March.
