When we last checked in on Monica Martin, the ex-PHOX frontwoman had just released a killer album with Violents titled Awake and Pretty Much Sober. The pair have recently stepped out in support of it, including a session at NPR’s famed Tiny Desk that was released today.
Violents and Martin performed a three-song set of “Equal Powers,” “Unraveling” and “Spark,” all in a flourish of strings and piano. And while Martin’s vocals again are at the forefront, the Tiny Desk set provides on opportunity to really let Violents’ knack for orchestral arrangement shine. If you’ve got 15 minutes to spare, there’s not really a better way to spend it.
Martin — who is also working on a solo album — will perform in Madison this Friday, June 9 at a sold out Crescendo show with J.E. Sunde and Her Crooked Heart.
