Hilldale Shopping Center just got a lot busier. On Saturday, the Apple Store will be moving from its longtime location at West Towne Mall to a brand-new, roughly 10,000-square-foot space at Hilldale.
The addition of Apple is the icing on the cake of Hilldale’s multi-year redevelopment project, which was kick-started when it was purchased by WS Development in a 2012 sheriff’s auction. Since that purchase, Hilldale has become a destination for high-end shopping in the Madison area, with additions like Madewell and Kate Spade adding to the already high-priced clientele on the east side of the mall.
Apple is a welcome addition to a shopping center that is frequented by many UW and Edgewood students, which makes the move even more attractive on both sides of the deal. With an Apple store now a 10-minute bus ride away, students no longer have to ride the 6 for an hour just to get repairs for their computers or phones.
As for the original location at West Towne, it will close this Friday, Aug. 11. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the space will be leased out to Callister’s Christmas for the season and will then be taken over by a yet-to-be found tenant in the spring of 2018.
