Mark Pocan offers job to fired FBI official Andrew McCabe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was another busy weekend on the set of <em>American President<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday night, former FBI Deputy Director and stone-cold silver fox <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/03\/16\/politics\/andrew-mccabe-fired\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew McCabe was fired<\/a> less than 48 hours before he was set to retire. The details behind McCabe\u2019s firing are still somewhat hazy, with the administration once again crying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/fbi-disciplinary-office-recommends-firing-former-deputy-director-andrew-mccabe\/2018\/03\/14\/c1d0dc1a-208a-11e8-86f6-54bfff693d2b_story.html?utm_term=.089a98726f00\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cClinton\u201d and \u201cleaks.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This, of course, is absurd, as the concept of Donald Trump caring about the integrity of the Clinton email investigation is about as far fetched as the concept of Donald Trump caring about anything other than Donald Trump. And naturally, our mean girl president used the occasion to add to his burn book:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI &#8211; A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/974859881827258369?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Many see McCabe\u2019s firing for what it is, which is a shockingly bold escalation of President Regina George\u2019s attacks on the FBI and other institutions of U.S. law enforcement. (This weekend also included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/plum-line\/wp\/2018\/03\/19\/this-new-report-on-trumps-state-of-mind-should-alarm-you\/?utm_term=.ebce5fbc6afc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a series of tweets<\/a> about Special Counsel Robert Mueller that have led many to believe Trump will fire him, too.) It\u2019s also notable for its extreme pettiness, as A.G. Jeff Sessions let McCabe go less than 48 hours before the 21-year FBI vet\u2019s pension was fully vested.<\/p>\n<p>This too is unsurprising, as pettiness is a key component of the Trump brand. Never forget that President Diaper Baby has, on more than one occasion, mailed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/donald-trump-and-vanity-fairs-graydon-carter-have-been-feuding-decades-661450\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">golden tracing of his own hand<\/a> to former <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> editor Graydon Carter whenever Carter would clown on Trump\u2019s legendarily small hands.<\/p>\n<p>And while Trump\u2019s pettiness can be comical \u2014 at least, it was back when he was still a second-rate game show host \u2014 in this instance it\u2019s cost a career FBI agent a much-deserved pension. But some on Capitol Hill are starting to see ways around that, chief among them <a href=\"http:\/\/host.madison.com\/wsj\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/u-s-rep-mark-pocan-extends-job-offer-to-ousted\/article_ff947839-6f55-5b81-95cf-8ebb151344db.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our own congressman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Mark Pocan, a Democrat who represents Wisconsin\u2019s second district, offered McCabe a job working on election security.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">One suggestion from a McCabe supporter: if a friendly member of Congress hired him for a week he could possibly qualify for pension benefits by extending his service the extra days<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andrea Mitchell (@mitchellreports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mitchellreports\/status\/974831223817342977?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Andrew call me. Mark Pocan (@repmarkpocan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/repmarkpocan\/status\/975004405824147456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The idea behind this is that if McCabe works a couple of days in Congress, his pension will vest fully and his early benefits will remain in tact. And for his part, Pocan says it\u2019s a \u201clegitimate offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe deserves the full retirement that he has been promised,\u201d Pocan said in a statement, \u201cnot to have it taken away as a result of the president\u2019s political games.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Lacking human decency is a major character flaw for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@realDonaldTrump<\/a>. The President is trying to send a message and derail the Mueller investigation by firing McCabe just days before his retirement. My offer stands to hire McCabe to ensure he receives his benefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep.
