It was announced this morning<\/a> that the Ohio-bred, Brooklyn-based indie rock icons will return to the Orpheum Theater on July 31,\u00a0with Lucy Dacus<\/a>.\u00a0The band last played Madison in 2013, also at the Orpheum, with Frightened Rabbit.<\/p>\n Formed in 1999, The National have morphed over the years from a scrappy band of Midwestern post-punks to one of rock\u2019s premier acts. Anchored by frontman Matt Berninger\u2019s husky, devastating baritone, The National spent several years sharpening their sound (a somber blend of post-punk and baroque pop) before breaking through with 2007\u2019s Boxer<\/em>.
