Last month, Madison-area siblings Becca and Matt Hamilton became Olympians within hours of each other, qualifying for the U.S. curling team. But before the McFarland-bred Hamiltons even set foot in PyeongChang later this winter, they’ve already accomplished another milestone together: network television debut.
On Thursday night, Becca and Matt found themselves on opposite sides of the ice in a friendly game of bar curling on NBC’s The Tonight Show. Becca and her teammate Jimmy Fallon found themselves out to an early lead, only to fall short after a valiant come-from-behind by Matt and guest Jason Sudeikis. In fact, it was Sudeikis who scored the points that put his team over the edge.Though to be fair, it was probably just that Matt got a more athletic partner in the former basketball player Sudeikis, while Becca was stuck with nice guy but apolitical smarm goblin Fallon.
It’s likely the competition will be stiffer in South Korea, where the Hamiltons will square off against the world’s best (including as a mixed doubles team). And while Matt will be the only Wisconsin native on the men’s team, a fellow McFarlander, Nina Roth, will join Becca on the women’s team.
