Today’s Memorial Day, the day Americans honor their fallen troops by getting drunk while the sun’s out and gorging themselves on hamburgers, hot dogs and pretty much anything else you can grill.
Any good barbecue needs a good soundtrack, and that’s where we come in. We’ve compiled a playlist designed specifically for extended periods of day drinking, which can sometimes be a delicate feat.
You don’t want to go too hard too quickly and pass out early, but at the same time you want to get a decent buzz going to enjoy the summer haze. And doing that requires a specific musical pace: not too fast, not too slow, but somewhere in between.
“Day Drinking” is heavy on things like alternative country and classic rock — including what I’d call a few modern classics — with a little psychedelic indie rock and hip-hop thrown in to even things out. Because let’s be honest: Is there any other way to listen to The Hold Steady than while crushing Summer Shandy at two in the afternoon?
Is there something you think we missed? WELL TOO DAMN BAD. (Just kidding. Feel free to let us know in the comments.)
