As many Madisonians do, The Bozho takes the Dane County Farmers’ Market seriously. So much so that we’ve conducted experiments to determine the prime time to arrive on Saturday mornings. But there is a contingent of market-goers who are hoping to take this week’s market a little less earnestly.
At the Dane County Farmers’ Market this Saturday, Aug. 19, a “Group for Radical Action” hopes to alter the direction of the shoppers strolling around the Capitol, switching from walking counter-clockwise to walking clockwise.
Via a Craigslist post, an anonymous conspirator is asking for 100 people to come together at around 6:30 a.m. to create a shift from the weekend morning norm.
“Even though we are not walking to educate anyone about a specific cause, we walk to prove to ourselves that change can be made even when we feel small or like the odds are against us,” the organizer writes. “…There are things, even the most mundane, that we accept as simply being how the world works and impossible to change.”
If you are unable to make it to the market at sunrise, there is hope that the swarm of shoppers will continue to walk clockwise for the duration of the day. Only time will tell if this backwards idea works.
“This may be a bit silly, but sometimes we need some more silliness in our lives.”
